Silverlight 4 and ContextMenus

December 21, 2010

Build 147 and above of SilverSmalltalk use the Silverlight 4.0 runtime (previous releases were 3.x).

The main reason for the change was to access a number of new widgets which work only with Silverlight 4.x. One of the new widgets available is a “right-click” context menu.

Context menus are important for implementing a number of Smalltalk tools such as inspectors and browsers.

So, over the next week, you should start seeing several new development tools becoming available.

One effect of adding the new runtime *.DLL files is that the SilverSmalltalk *.XAP executable has gone from 171KB to 407KB.

If anyone has problems running the new version, please let me know.
